Christmas 2011
What better gift to open on Christmas Eve than new 'snugglie' pajamas. Kate was pretty excited that Paige's matched hers. Kate had asked Santa for GeoTracks and spent all day playing with them and her new marble game.
We missed my Dad, knowing he would have loved setting up the toys and watching Cars 2 with us. It's an odd feeling to not have him around when he's supposed to be here. It was nice spending time with our family and just lazing around all Christmas day. I hope you all had a great Christmas with your family.

Dave's Favorite Photo
This was my dad's favorite photo of himself. I think it's a great photo and so him. We had it blown up to put near the casket at the funeral - it was just perfect. No one in our family took this photo, someone gave it to us years ago. Does anyone remember taking it?
My Girls
Paige just hit the 3 month mark so I had to shoot some photos today. She's getting a little chunky and I love it.
My dad would have loved these pictures. He was always asking if I had updated the blog or taken any more pictures lately. For mother's day the last few years I've made a calendar for my mom of Kate, and then ordered three extra copies (one for me, Jed, and my dad). My mom really liked the calendar, but my dad just absolutely loved it. He would call me all the time and tell me that he had looked at it earlier that day and just loved the pictures of Kate in it.
I am loving having two girls to dress up - they are so much fun! And I love how much Kate loves Paige.

Family Pics
Sorry for such a sad last post - it was a rough night and I needed to get my feelings put down somewhere. We had Jed's family pics last week. It was cold!!! I think a mere 20 degrees! But they turned out great!

one month
It's been a month.
I miss him so much.
I can't decide whether each day is easier or harder.
I made the mistake of trying to download the picture video from the funeral to my computer. I had to watch it - through streaming tears. These are a few of the pictures, and they hold so many dear to my heart memories - and I miss him all the more.
Our trip to the pumpkin patch. It was a beautiful day that we went with Kate's preschool. He wasn't feeling well but came anyway. We went out for the hay ride to pick the pumpkins, both watching Kate and seeing how much fun she was having. Before he left he gave me a hug, thanking me for letting him come with us - we both knew he wouldn't be here the next year. We were both holding back the tears. It broke my heart to see him walk away knowing how much he wanted to stay here and be with us. He loved his life here.
With Paige in his hospital bed. She was such a good little snuggler and heater. One of my dad's favorite things was to hold her and let her sleep on his chest and keep him warm. I'm so glad that he did get to hold her.
His sons. He really did consider them his boys. This was the Disneyland trip we took almost two years ago, right after he was diagnosed, and right before he began his first round of chemo and radiation. He had wanted so badly to see Kate on her first trip to Disneyland. She was a little young, but we went anyway because we had no idea if he would be well again or not. It was a bittersweet trip - full of fun and sadness.
He was always relaxing on the ground - the sand at the dunes, his lawn or driveway at his house.
His Rex at St. Anthony. We grew up going to the dunes, then stopped for a long time, then started up again a few years ago. We loved St. Anthony and always had so much fun going there together. It's some of the best memories I have - just spending so much time together as a family.
A typical where-ever-we-were picture, always fixing something. It just always added to the adventure of our vacations.
He loved Kate - and would have loved all of his grandkids. He just thought they were the best. This was Kate's first trip to the ocean. He ran along the beach with her, holding her hand. Some of my favorite pictures.
Our trip to Moab earlier this year. We didn't know if he would feel well enough to make it. He even delayed his second round of chemo and radiation a week so we could go. Our Super Saturday trail was fun. The leaders made a great day out of it - throwing a luau at lunch and having pinatas for the kids. I'm so glad he was able to drive his 6 with our newly finished 8's. He was so proud of the boys that they had finished them.
He spent at least a half hour with Kate driving him around camp at St. Anthony over the 4th of July - even though he was pretty sick then. He probably rode out on the dunes once, maybe twice for a few minutes the whole trip, but he let Kate drive him around camp. She always had so much fun with him, and could get him to do just about anything. She still called him 'Pagga' at that time.
His 6. He loved that Jeep and you could tell he was pretty proud of it.
His Rex came back from a ride one time with moss stuck in the undercarriage. The boys never lived it down. I was shocked when he drove Rex through the lake like this, he grinned the whole time.
You can see in his face he just loved being a grandpa. He was always so patient, and anyone knowing my dad knew that wasn't his strongest quality. Looking at these pictures reminds me how thankful I am of how much he loved my kids, and how they have felt his love for them.
I miss him. I know I'll see him again - but for now I miss him. What I wouldn't give to hug him again, or tell him what Kate and Paige were up to, or let him drive me nuts with his over-caring. I am so glad he's over his sickness, and I wouldn't want him back in his sickness, but I miss the days before cancer. I miss his smile, his love, his caring, his jokes.

Christmas Tree
I was cruising through blogs last night and saw some gorgeous pics of Christmas trees so I thought I'd try my hand at it. I love how they glow! Paige was sleeping so I put her under the tree. I'll have to dress her up cute next time.
I've realized I have a million pics of Kate when she was little - but not many of Paige (poor second child). As you know things have been a bit crazy around here, but I've told myself that I need to take more of her everyday life. When we went through photos for the funeral, I only had two of my dad and Paige. Both of them were of her snuggling on his chest, being his little heater that he loved so much.

David Scott Andersen Obituary
David Scott Andersen, age 59, passed away Wednesday November 9, 2011 from esophageal cancer.
He was born March 10, 1952, a son of Karl Ephraim and Randi Syversen Andersen. He worked as a mechanic at Ken Garff Mercedes for 16 years and Delta Airlines for 21 years. He could often be found with dirty hands, bringing an old forgotten vehicle back to life. Dave was well known in the community and was always willing to give someone a hand. He loved any activity involving toys with engines. His favorites included boating, the sand dunes and jeeping. Trips to Moab always meant Dave was bringing up the rear, making sure that no one was left behind.
He is loved and missed by his wife, Bonnie; children Erin (Jed) Dewsnup and Rondi (Marshall) Maughan; grandchildren Kate and Paige Dewsnup.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the David Andersen Memorial Fund at American First Credit Union.
A brief service will be held at 11:00 am. Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. where friends may visit from 9:00 to 11:00 prior to the services. Interment Centerville City Cemetery. Please honor Dave and drive your special car. Condolences may be shared at www.lindquistmortuary.com

David Scott Andersen 1952 - 2011
Our dad passed away early this afternoon after an almost 2 year battle with esophageal cancer. It's hard to believe he is really gone and I'm not sure if it will ever seem real. He is loved and already missed by his family and so many others.
He took care of everyone - especially my sister and I and his grandaughters. There were many snowy mornings when I lived at home that he would go out and clean my car off and start it up so it was warm for me when I was ready to leave.
He loved his grandkids. Kate could get him to do just about anything with her including watching Care Bears, playing hide and seek, and driving his Razor all by herself. Paige was his little heater he loved to hold on his chest to warm up.
At Moab he always brought up the rear to make sure no one was left behind. He was always the one to stop and help.
He went out of his way to make sure we always had what we needed - even though we thought that sometimes the effort he put forth was a bit ridiculous - he always made things extra comfortable, special and nice.
He loved to get the old or forgotten cars running. He usually lost interest when it came time to fix the cosmetics - but he sure loved to work on the engines.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, we're not sure of all the details yet but should know by tomorrow and I'll post. In honor of Dave, we'll be driving his Vette's and Jeep and would love for everyone to join us and drive their special car.

Halloween 2011
Amy Patterson took these pics on Halloween. She is so nice to have a Halloween photo shoot for the kids by just bringing a can of food to donate to the food bank. Thanks Amy - they are darling!
Paige 7 weeks
Poor second child doesn't get nearly as many pictures as the first, so I'm trying to remember to get out my camera and get a few more :) She just hit 7 weeks and here's a few things I want to remember...
Slept 8 1/2 hours last night - for the first time
Smiles
Makes adorable cooing noises
Loves to be held - by her Mama
Has reflux - poor thing
Is loved by her sister
Has the same scowl as her sister
Halloween
I helped out at Kate's preschool party this year and we decorated Haunted Houses. The kids loved them! Kate loved Halloween and has been running around in her pirate hat for over a month. She was just a little excited.

Pics of the Girls
I thought Paige would be the easy one to photograph - wrong - Kate was the agreeable one today and actually sat still and looked at the camera. Having her catch a ball during the photos did help, too bad I have nothing to keep Paige's attention yet.

Kate's 3 Year Pics
A bit late - but at least she's still 3! She loves Marshall's old truck so taking pictures was pretty easy this time. Thanks Grandma for the cute headband - Kate loves it!

The hospital
I was induced Friday morning at 7:00 am and Paige was born at 12:01 pm. She weighed in at 6 lbs 5 oz and 19 inches long. Kate was really excited to meet her new little sister. We stayed at the hospital until Saturday afternoon, then headed home. It was so much nicer to be home. It's been fun to have a new little one at home, I've forgotten how tiny they are.
