My dad is going in for Surgery tomorrow to remove his esophagus. For those of you who don't know, here's a quick summary. He was diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma (esophageal cancer) in January as a stage 4. He has been through 6 weeks of radiation and chemo which shrunk the tumor slightly. The next step is surgery to remove his esophagus. This is a pretty major surgery, but we are very hopeful for a good outcome.
We've decided to post updates here on the blog as well on facebook (Dave now has a facebook page). He'll be in the ICU probably until Wednesday and then still be in the hospital for an additional 8 days. You all know my dad, and you know he'll be bored out of his mind within an hour of being at the hospital. Letters and cards are greatly appreciated, please drop them off in the crock on the porch at Andersen's and we'll take them up to him. Comments on the blog or facebook are also appreciated as Dave will be checking on them and would love to hear from people. We're hoping that reading cards, browsing through blog comments and facebook walls will give him some sanity. We'll post when visitors are welcome as well as all the updates and any contact information. Thanks in advance for all your support.

We've been keeping tabs on him through my dad. He's in our prayers. Be strong for him and let him know we are thinking of him.
Erin, so sorry to hear about your Dad. I'm sure that has been really hard for him and all of you to go through. I love Dave, and I have some great memories of him during our soccer years. He is a great guy, always so happy, energetic and supportive. Let him know he will be in my prayers and I wish you all the best during his recovery!
